My Graduation Ceremony
I have recently graduated from Derby University with a 2:1 degree, BA (Hons) Business Management
It was Friday morning (22/01/2010), when I realised yes! Graduation finally here!!!!! Oh no, my last day as a Student, I was really depressed but happy as well obviously, it was my day to shine.
It felt so good catching up with all my friends as I hadn’t seen them for some time. We took pictures, had a buffet dinner then got our gowns ready for the ceremony which took place at the assembly rooms.
Although it was raining, we didn’t let the weather ruin our day, as every one was wearing a smile on their face all day.
All the speeches that were given where really interesting but the one that touched us all, was the one from a former student, class of 2009 from Venezuela, which was on behalf of all other students. She talked about how lovely it was studying at Derby University and how she met lovely people from the University, coming from all different backgrounds . And obviously the good fun student nights and when most students started panicking realising,” Oops, assignment’s in soon,” meaning no more partying. We all related to this.
It was then time for the awards; my gown kept falling off my shoulder, probably because I was nervous. All grandaunts were applauded by the audience. “Janet Nyangoma,” the dean of Business school called out my name, giving me a big smile as she was also proud of my achievement.
As I looked up, it felt so good seeing my mum smiling at me and waving, “yes, that’s my daughter.” My young sister running to catch me on video, felt a tear seeing every one proud of me as I walked off stage after shaking hands with the chancellor.
I wouldn’t have achieved a 2:1degree, if it wasn’t for the love of God, my Church Pear Tree Baptist Church, Family and the University.
