Description:
Allestree is an affluent residential suburb about 2 miles north of Derby city centre. It is surrounded by fields and three parks, Markeaton Park to the South, Allestree Park to the North, and Darley Abbey Park on the eastern side.
Though the suburb has several small shopping centres, the most prominent one is Parkfarm. Opened in the early1970s the centre is quite popular with its free parking and wide range of services. It has 2 banks Barclays and RBS, also several high street chains such as Wilkinsons, Summerfields, Farm foods, Boots and a number of clothing shops.
The main campus of the University of Derby is also in this area. There are two primary schools Lawn Primary School and Portway Junior and a secondary school with sixth form, Woodlands Community School. All three schools have good Ofsted reports. Allestree has several doctors, opticians, chemists dentists, pubs and takeaways but no restaurants. Transport links are well established with the A6 running along the suburb and the A38 close by.
A very reliable bus service to the city centre provided by Trent Burton runs every 10 to 15 minutes. Buses to Belper, Duffield and Matlock are also regular and Derby train station is only about 2 miles away.
