Alvaston residential suburb which is part of Alvaston district lies about 2 miles south of Derby city centre. The suburb's shopping centre is at the junction of London road and the A5111 Ring Road.
It's a busy shopping centre with everything needed for daily convenience. Shops include Iceland, 2 small supermarkets, a petrol station, betting shop a big library, HSBC bank, Post Office and several charity shops.
Two industrial developments Osmaston Park Industrial Estate and Pride Park development are close by. The area has a number of dentists, doctors and clinics, several pubs but few restaurants.
Alvaston has excellent transport links with easy access to the A50, A6 A38, M6 and M1 plus regular buses to the city centre, Allenton, Loughborour, East Midlands Airport and Nottingham. Derby Train Station is just 5 minutes drive away and local buses here are operated by Arriva bus company.
The suburb has a number of sports clubs the most popular being Boulton Cricket Club, also several junior schools and two secondary schools Merril College and Noal-Baker. Pride Park Stadium which is home to Derby County Club is close by.
There are a number of men and women societies, an amateur radio club and a community centre packed with various interesting programs. The suburb's open recreational area Alvaston park is quite popular with it's skateboard circuit, football pitches, tennis courts, cricket pitch, fishing and water sports.
