Derby has a new bus station opened to the public on Sunday 28th March 2010. Derby’s new bus station was due to open earlier in January but the date was delayed due to some reasons like a flood when a pipe burst.
The station was officially opened by Mayor of Derby Coun Sean Marshall at 11.15am on Saturday.
The former station which was built in 1933, closed in 2005, and subsequently demolished to give room for, a new bus station which is still under construction. The project is part of the Riverlights development that is scheduled to open early 2010.
Derby bus station now comprise of a safe, bright and pleasant waiting area with leisure compound featuring cafes, pubs and a hotel, all connected to the station.
Local bus services in and around Derby are run by a number of companies, but principally Trent Barton and Arriva Midlands. However, the city is not particularly well served by long distance coaches, although it is on National Express.
