Description:
Elvaston Castle Country Park, is located 4 miles south-east of the city of Derby. The park consists of over 200 acres of woodlands, parkland, formal gardens and Elvaston Castle.
The Castle used to be home to the Stanhope family before it was sold to Derbyshire County Council in 1968. Since then the council run the estate as Elvaston Castle.
The park is famous for long avenues, the serpentine lake, a Moorish temple, the large and unexpected example of rocaille and the Golden Gates from a french royal palace.
At the heart of the park is the castle building, which despite its name, is really a country house.Today, due to its need for restoration, the castle is only occassionally open to the public (please call the park for details of our castle tours).
Elvaston is a great place to visit for a walk, bird watching, a bite to eat in the castle tea rooms or a picnic with friends or family. The park office is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Sunday. The grounds are open from 9am to dusk all year round.
The car park is open during summer from 9am to 8pm (some events mean the car park will be closed - please check for details) and in winter it is open from 9am to 5pm
