Description:
Possibly the finest example of a fortified medieval manor house in existence, Haddon Hall has been owned by the family of Lord and Lady Edward manners since 1567.
First built in the 12th Century, this remarkable house has been described by Simon Jenkins in 1000 Best Houses as “the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages”.
Set amongst the rolling countryside of the Peak District National Park, Haddon Hall is surrounded by terraced Elizabethan gardens and has a number of special events scheduled throughout the season.
Haddon Hall has been made famous as a location for film and TV productions, including the recent Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightly and Dame Judy Dench; as well as the BBC production of Jane Eyre.
The licensed walker-friendly Restaurant is situated in the 17th Century stable block, with views over the River Wye and is also open to non-visitors to the Hall. It is also available for private functions outside normal opening times.
School visits are welcomed at this perfect Tudor house, which is ideal for Keystage 2 studies.
