In Derby, when thinking of plays, comedy theatres the first thing that comes in my mind is the Assembly Rooms which is located in the Market place. Here you will find different halls including; Derby Theatre, Guildhall Theatre and others who are all part of Derby Live.

 

Derby Theatre which was formally known as Derby Play house from 1975 to 2008 is now controlled by the University of Derby.If you’re looking for plays with, comedy, humour, love and many more Assembly rooms is the place to be. Here are some of the productions showing this month at the Theatres.

 

Women on the verge: at Derby Theatre Assembly rooms. A fabulously feisty, funny,  and warm-hearted play. It’s been showing from 5 March to 27 March.

 

Jethro Tull playing on 22 March at the Assembly rooms.  The will be playing a variety and depth of expression wherever fans, young and old, want to hear Rock, Folk, Jazz and Classical-inspired music for grown-ups.

 

West End Hits and Broadway Glitz at the Guild hall Assembly rooms on 23 March: With something for everyone, West End Hits & Broadway Glitz features a fabulous selection of music from Broadway to the West End and is sure to send the audience home with a smile on their faces and tapping their feet!

 

The Charley Boorman Show at the Assembly rooms on 23 March. The star of 'The Long Way Round', 'The Long Way Down' and 'By Any Means' hosts an evening of stories, anecdotes and tales from his worldwide escapades.

Bergen Philharmoic Orchestra at Assembly rooms 24 March. •Conductor | Andrew Litton, Soloist | Laura Aikin (soprano), GRIEG | Peer Gynt Suite No 1 15’, MOZART | Opera Arias tba, MAHLER | Symphony No.4 54’

 

Sierra Maestra at Derwin Suite Assembly rooms on March 25th. Sierra Maestra have played a hugely significant part in the recent global explosion in popularity of Cuban music.

 

Essence of Ireland at the Great Hall 26 March. Journey to a mystical place where Irish myths are explored through the power of music and dance.

Linda Cooper School of Dance & Stage Door Theatre Arts in Dream at the Great Hall Assembly rooms on 27 March. Hot jazz, toe tapping tingling tap and classical ballet from a leading professional dance and theatre arts company. Makes for a spell binding family show.

Rasa with Oxfordshire Theatre Company present Handful of Henna at Guild hall 29 March. Being dragged by her mother back to the family village thousands of miles away is no fun for 13-year-old Nasreen.

Broken Hearted by Lucy Gannon: World Premiere at Derby Live 27 March. How can Nancy, at the best of times ‘a difficult woman’ keep her emotional balance when Eddie, the love of her life, dies just days before their wedding?
