Description:
It has been confirmed that Derby’s new bus station is to finally be opened to the public on Sunday 28th 2010.
Derby’s new bus station was due to open earlier in January but the date was delayed due to some reasons like a flood when a pipe burst.
The city council now insists buses will start running from the station at 8am on Sunday, although the public will have a chance to look round the site on Saturday.
It said yesterday's decision to go for a Sunday opening heralded the beginning of a major publicity campaign by the council and bus companies to inform people where they need to go to catch their bus.
People will also be stationed at the city's temporary bus stops so travellers can find out where they need to go in the new station.
A council spokeswoman said: "We'll have staff all over the city centre handing out leaflets and they will also be in our public buildings, such as libraries, museums and leisure centres.
"Every bus stop in the city has a notice of the change showing the bay they need to go to."
It had been thought information screens at the bus station would not be operational when it opened but the council confirmed they would be.
The station will be officially opened by Mayor of Derby Coun Sean Marshall at 11.15am on Saturday.
The public will be able to look around between midday and 4pm.
