University of Derby's May Ball event attracting thousands each year

University of Derby’s biggest student annual celebration the “May Ball” is just a day away.

To be held at Kedleston Road site on May 1st, the event is the ultimate way to say goodbye to the last twelve months in Derby and hello to the summer break.

More than 2,000 students are expected to attend this year's May Ball.

Last year’s event was one of the biggest in the history of the May Ball. Over 3,000 students flocked to the site which spanned across over 5 stages.

This particular event is likely to be the last May Ball in the University grounds for several years as it may be an offsite festival next year.

Pop rap artist Tinchy Stryder will appear as the headline act at the University of Derby Students' Union event this Saturday.

He will be joined by Get Cape Wear Cape, Why and DJ Ras Kwame, on the main stage at the May Ball with the Pendulum DJing later on in the evening.

The May Ball's four arenas at the Kedleston Road campus will be packed with over 20 acts.The ball will run from 9pm until 6am, and there will be an after-party straight after at Walkabout in Derby's Market Place.

New this year will be a carnival area playing host to tarot card readers and caricaturists adding to the circus theme of this year's ball.

SU president Caleb Jackson said: "The May Ball is our biggest event of the year and it is a great way for our students to celebrate the end of the academic year”.
