The World Cup comes to Derby!

Derby will soon experience the feel of the World Cup tournament in an event designed to feature international 5 -aside football matches.  

The World Cup tournament, sponsored by Pennine Healthcare and arranged by the University of Derby, kicks off on the 9^th of June 2010 in Derby.

The competition involves several international 5-aside matches. Twenty teams formed four groups which will compete on four pitches simultaneously throughout the afternoon. Each World Cup match will be seven minutes per half.

The University of Derby organised teams from all over the world to make the tournament a real World Cup. Teams include England, Mexico, Cameroon, Greece, New Zealand, Holland, Ghana, South Africa and more.

Other countries including Zimbabwe, Togo, and Malawi did not make it; hopefully they will also take part in the event if it continues next year.

Not leaving out Derby girls, the organisers said there will also be a fancy dress "WAG of the Tournament" competition on the day alongside the World Cup tournament.

Those wanting to participate in the WAG of the Tournament competition must come dressed as their favourite WAG idol and give their names at the pitch-side team registration desk.

The WAG of the Tournament will receive a much-coveted University goody bag, which will be presented at the trophy ceremony after the world cup final.
