Derby Carnival 2010 to storm the city with mass costume and live music

Derby Carnival brings a taste of the Afro- Caribbean to the City of Derby.  Live music, playing soca reggae, steelpan, with mass costume adding the colour will storm the city of Derby on the 17^th and 18^th of July  2010.

 

Derby Carnival is one of the best free festival  events in the Derby which  allows people from all walks of life and backgrounds take to the streets and join the parade dancing and singing to the music.

 

Organisers  are putting the finishing touches to the vibrant costumes, colourful floats and entertainment line up for this year’s event – part of the city’s Summer Rhythms 2010 festival.

 

Since 1975, the Derby Caribbean Carnival been going from strength to strength and this year begins on Saturday 17^th July where it takes to the streets of Derby with their famous Procession Day.

 

The theme for this year’s carnival is Heroes and Champions – inspired by the Cultural Olympiad and by cultural heroes from Martin Luther King to Nelson Mandela.
