Description:
A US retail giant is set to create 100 jobs in Derby by opening a city store.
Home electrical retailer Best Buy will set up at the former B&Q premises at Kingsway Retail Park. Best Buy is one of the best-known names in home electronics in America and sells audio-visual equipment, computer technology, entertainment devices, mobile phones, music, films and games.
It plans to open at Kings-way in the autumn. Best Buy chief executive of branded operations Paul Antoniadis said: "I'm delighted we will be bringing the Best Buy experience to people who live and work in and around Derby.
"We're now recruiting for roles across the store in Derby."
Best Buy needs store managers, department heads and sales, operations, merchandising, asset protection and administration staff.
Posts in the firm's "Geek Squad" technical support team will also be available. Mr Antoniadis said: "We'll be searching for enthusiastic store colleagues who will be enrolled in Best Buy's Blueshirt Academy where, over a nine-week period, they will receive training on the latest consumer technology and have the opportunity to develop into customer-focused colleagues."
The company's strategy is to open new outlets across the UK. It will also open a store in Nottingham next year, creating a further 100 jobs.
Best Buy now has a presence in Canada, China, Mexico and Turkey, employing around 180,000 people worldwide.
Its family of brands includes Best Buy Mobile, Audiovisions, Carphone Warehouse, Future Shop, Geek Squad, Five Star, Magnolia Audio Video, Napster, Pacific Sales, The Phone House and Speakeasy.
