Description:
Derby City Council is likely to shed more jobs, increasing from the original target of 465 to 750 as the authority tries to make £27.97m of savings over the next four years.
Savings will have to be made following the Government's emergency budget in June which stated departments would see their funding slashed by an average of 25%.
The council will not know how much it will receive from Government until October 20 when the comprehensive spending review is announced.
But it is making estimates for its four-year budget based on a reduction in funding of 30%. That will be made up of £6.94m of savings next year, a further £7.23m in 2012-13, £6.9m in 2013-14 and £6.9m in 2014-15m.
The council had already planned to reduce the number of jobs at the authority by 465 as part of its own savings plan. But now that figure could rise to 750 to meet the higher level of savings it will have to make.
