Up to 2,500 jobs could be created in Derby if a £92m development is given the go-ahead, according to a regeneration group.
Plans for the One Derby complex include a hotel, five office blocks, restaurants, cafes and a public piazza. The 400,000 sq ft (37,160 sq m) project would link the railway station to the city centre.
City councillors will decide whether to grant planning permission for the project at a meeting on Thursday. Steve Salloway, a senior partner with Salloway Property Consultants, which is attracting investors for the project, said: "There's been a significant shortage of prime city centre office development for the last 20 years and we believe now is the time to find the occupiers for this kind of space.
"It will be a very impressive gateway development at the entrance to the city centre." John Cadwallader, from Derby Cityscape, said: "It was one of the schemes we identified as being of prime importance. "It brings somewhere in the region of 2,500 jobs, which is vitally important for those who are now in school and are looking for careers in the city." Derby Cityscape is a not-for-profit company which is helping to regenerate Derby's city centre.
