MP Laxton to retire at next elections

20 October 2009

Description:

Bob Laxton, the Derby North MP confirmed he is pulling out of the next election.

He saved as the area's MP since Labour's victory in 1997 and a city councillor for 19 years before that.

Mr Laxton, 65, said he felt he should step aside for a younger candidate. If he served another full term, he would be 71-years-old.

At 71, I don't think really I could still have the drive and determination to represent people to the level that I have over the last 13 years and longer, he said.
