£20m makeover of Derby station has completed

The £20m makeover of Derby station has been officially unveiled after taking 18 months to complete.

Improvements include rebuilding platform canopies, widening the stairs and installing lifts to ensure step-free access to all platforms.

New waiting rooms, toilets and staff areas were also introduced. Network Rail started on the scheme in early 2008 and worked closely with East Midlands Trains to ensure disruption to passengers was kept to minimum.

However, questions have been raised by some critics as to why spending that amount of money when the place is still exposed to the cold and wet winds - why no roof?

Though the place now looks much better, a cold winter is likely to make people think otherwise.
