A Nottingham virus expert is warning that swine flu could double the number of deaths expected over a normal flu season in Britain this winter.
Dr Alan McNally, a molecular microbiologist at Nottingham Trent University, also says that scientists are facing a "unique challenge" this winter in having to keep on top of four different kinds of flu virus - not just swine flu, but avian flu and new forms of the known kinds of human flu.
"At the moment we have huge problems because this winter is going to present probably the biggest challenges scientists have ever faced," said Dr Alan McNally.
A full exclusive interview with Dr McNally is available to read now in the 5th edition of Wavelength, the quarterly magazine from Nottingham Science City, website www.science-city.co.uk
