Description:
Finding the most suitable accommodation in Derby when studying, is one of the most important decisions every student need to carefully consider early enough to settle down before the academic year begins.
The earliest and best time to start making enquiries for student accommodation in Derby is from February onwards!
Some students manage to organise their accommodation very early in the year - although it is sometimes possible to do this, it's advisable to wait until house hunting season begins in earnest.
Student accommodation landlords in Derby need time to find out, whether existing occupants are going to vacate or remain for another year and some will be busy preparing or refurbishing their properties.
By house hunting too early in Derby, you could miss out on more desirable properties which become available later.
If you are currently living in University of Derby Halls of Residence and know you are going to leave in summer next year you will probably already be thinking about how to find private sector accommodation for September.....
The University of Derby runs a Private Accommodation Office that operates an Approved Accommodation Service for private properties let to students.
These properties are checked by Derby City Council to ensure all the necessary standards for gas, fire, and electrical safety are met, in addition to making sure properties are fully furnished.
Students can therefore be confident that accommodation registered and approved by the University is of the highest possible safety standards and meets the needs of students.
Shared occupancy!
At present it is a good idea to think about who you would like to share a house with, so you can form a friendship group. In Derby the majority of private houses can hold between 3 and 5 students - groups of 3, 4 or 5 persons are therefore ideal!
Houses for 5 or more will be available, but are not as numerous as smaller properties, the larger your group the less choice you will have when looking for houses to occupy.
Bedsits, en-suite units and flats will also be available, which will interest students who do not want to share. Please appreciate that some landlords may charge a retainer (a lower rental fee in respect of the summer period) to reserve a room or property until you occupy it in September.
