Description:
Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for highways and transport revealed the opening date for Derby’s new bus Station to be March 28 to the public, after a question from Conservative Peter Berry at last night's full council meeting.
He said: "There has not been enough detailed information given to the general public about what's happening with the bus station."
He also asked why there had been such long delays to the station, originally intended to be open at the end of last year.
Last year, Mrs Care said the station would not be open until January to avoid disruption to bus companies at Christmas.
But that date was put back yet again to "February at the earliest" when contractors Derby Riverlights had still not handed over the building by last month.
She added: "The delays also provide time for several test runs using a substantial number of buses to get in and out of the terminals.
I don't think it would be cost-effective to open the bus station for 24 hours when those opening times will meet the needs of the vast majority of people."
The station, part of the £100m Riverlights development, will be open from 5.30am to midnight Monday to Saturday and 9am to 11pm on Sundays.
