New UKTI Strategy welcome, says Derbyshire Chamber

Commenting on the publication of UK Trade and Investment’s new five-year strategy*, George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Chamber welcomes the publication of this strategy and the focus that it places on fostering a more entrepreneurial approach to the UK’s international trade, which will help to both sustain and secure the recovery and drive future economic growth.

 

“Chamber members and the wider business community are ready and willing to meet the challenges that this presents by supporting high growth firms, particularly SMEs, to develop in the international marketplace and helping the private sector to reach its export potential.

 

“This strategy will play a key role in ensuring these capabilities are mobilized properly to help more firms to export, access new markets and grow. The Chamber’s International Trade Forum discussed some of the issues raised in the strategy at length when it met this week.

 

"It’s vital that the education and training agenda is addressed to ensure that the UK workforce has the skills and expertise it needs to help our businesses take advantage of high-value opportunities in overseas markets and also to attract high quality inward investment in British infrastructure and regeneration projects from foreign investors.”
