Spondon Youth Club holds Saturday sessions by Baby J

A series of live music events for young people is run at a local youth club by DJ and producer Baby J, who has worked with Amy Winehouse, Skinnyman and Wu Tang Clan.

The nights include performances from exisiting artists and newcomer slots.

The monthly sessions, which take place at Spondon Youth Club on Stoney Lane, are running from January to June.

Baby J, who has studios in Arthur Street in Derby, said: "It gives young people something to do on a night when there is very little happening for people of that age.

"Everyone can get involved in rapping, singing and playing music.

"Eventually it would be good to hold workshops in the area so that if people want to take music further, they can."

One youngster, Ben Harris, who attended the first session, said: "I was bit nervous as loads of my mates were there but after a bit I decided to get up to have a go.

"It was cool and it's great we can have this in our youth club on a Saturday night."

The sessions are part of a recent expansion in Friday and Saturday night activities for young people in the city, funded by a government grant.
