TweetSouth Derbyshire youngsters are being encouraged to design an Olympics logo which will be used across the district.
The winning entry will be used at the district's sporting events and will also be showcased at venues such as sports clubs, schools and leisure centres.
Councillor John Lemmon, chairman of housing and community services at South Derbyshire District Council, said: "This competition offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the young people of South Derbyshire.
The Olympics will inspire a generation to take part in local volunteering, cultural and physical activities and will open new corridors of creativity. "
The competition is open to youngsters aged between five and 19.
All designs must be submitted on A4 paper, hand drawn and sent to the South Derbyshire Sport Department, care of Hannah Barradell-Smith, Civic Offices, Civic Way, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE11 0AH.
On the back of designs entrants should write their name, age, educational establishment and school year from September. The closing date is August 31.
