TweetSteve Coogan is filming a new TV show in Matlock. The comedy called Starlings, tells the story of a working class family living in the Derbyshire town.
TV trucks have been spotted in the town and filming is said to have already started.
The show which has been seen as a potential tourist boost for the town will be shown on Sky 1 next August.
Ann Elliott Matlock town councillor, said she hoped the interest in the programme would tie in with other developments lined up for Matlock.
She said: "We have the new Arc Leisure Matlock centre, which opens later this month.
"I think it's wonderful news. People will want to see the place where it's been filmed."
Steve Coogan shot to fame as a stand-up comedy and creating the role of chat-show host and DJ Alan Partridge, he has also starred in Hollywood films, including Night at the Museum and The Parole Officer.
The comedy genius whose shows often get quite a dedicated following will produce the show with other well known names Matt King from the Peep Show, and Steve Edge from Star Stories who will both have big roles in it.
