John Rooney, younger brother of Wayne Rooney, Manchester United and England star was training with Derby County this week in the hope of securing a move from Macclesfield.
Nigel Clough current Derby County manager was impressed by John Rooney during training in his first week with Derby County but wants a second view before a decision is made on his future at Derby County.
The 19-year-old midfielder has trained with The Rams for the last three days and was set to play for the Reserves against Sheffield United at Alfreton yesterday afternoon but the fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Derby County’s manager said he would ask Macclesfield Town if the youngster can return next week and play for the Reserves against Sheffield Wednesday.
"Macclesfield are preparing for their game on Saturday and I would have thought John would be in the squad for that. We'll see if we can get him back for the Reserve game next Wednesday," said Clough.
Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander has tipped the youngster to play at a much higher level but he concedes that the League Two club may struggle to keep hold of Rooney in the summer if he impresses The Rams.
Asked if having such a famous brother could have an adverse effect on Rooney, Clough said: "It is not going to be easy for him. His brother is so special that John is always going to be in his shadow in anything he accomplishes.
"But John is young, he is just trying to make his own way whether it be in League Two or whatever, and he wants to be a professional footballer."
