Derby Festé is becoming a central event in Derby's cultural calendar

13 August 2009

Description:

Derby Festé 2009 will take place over the weekend of Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September, celebrating Derby's Cathedral Quarter. The events will take place right across the city, from the Westfield Shopping Centre through the historic Cathedral Quarter and onto Darley Park.

Following increasingly successful events in 2007 and 2008, Derby Festé is becoming a central event in Derby's cultural calendar, bringing the whole city out on the streets for three days of fantastic events. Festé is produced by Arts Agenda and several of Derby's key arts organisations: Déda, QUAD and Derby LIVE, with sinfonia ViVA and Derby Jazz.

Festé begins with Close Act Characters. Beginning in Westfield Derby, a group of silver explorers will lead audiences into the Cathedral Quarter for the start of the weekend's activities.Four mysterious figures will lead audiences from the Cathedral Quarter to Cathedral Green where they transform into voluminous 4 metre high, ethereal beings for a performance of Herbert's Dream.

At the finale, The World Famous will create a dazzling shower of light to celebrate the opening of the Cathedral Green.A performance of Luminous from the Wrong Size theatre company will then lead audiences to the Market Place for the Festé Street Party.

The Market Place will be transformed, decorated with lights for the Festé Street Party with tables and chairs surrounding a central dance floor for an outdoor Ceilidh. There will be international food stalls and the surrounding cafes and bars staying open until late.

A full programme will be available nearer the time, and further information will be updated on the Derby Festé website:
